Eyelid Lumps & Bumps
What causes Eyelid Lumps & Bumps?
Eyelid lumps and bumps are caused by a range of generally benign conditions. Some of these include hidrocystomas, seborrhoeic keratoses, papillomas and cysts.
What symptoms/signs does it cause?
Patients often find the lesions can become irritated if they rub on adjacent skin or interfere with their vision if they hang down. Occasionally patients will notice the lesion rubs on the surface of the eyeball and is uncomfortable.
What treatment is available?
Treatment usually involves removing the lesion under local anaesthetic and sending it for histological analysis. Often the lesion is able to be removed on the same day as your initial appointment.
What is the recovery?
Recovery is generally swift, with most biopsy sites healed within 2-3 days. Sutures are often not required. Patients are often able to drive home after the biopsy has been performed.
What are the risks?
The significant risks relevant to you will be discussed in detail at your consultation. Recurrence of the lesion and need for further surgery are sometimes encountered.
